Bridesmaids - the girly equivalent of The Hangover

It's difficult to go to the cinema with that innocent expectation what with online reviews you can get on your phone before you decide to spend an all important evening out with your loved one, and one of those rare occasions when dad can babysit on a Thursday (OK this was last week), and all you have to go on is 'IT IS SO FUNNY YOU WILL LOVE THIS FILM', but I resisted the urge to check it out - OK little white lie, in checking out the cinema times, I did read a one liner of 'it has an empotional core' ... and then I stopped reading and we went to see it.
As I tweeted - it is crude, and crass but so honestly funny it is a definite must. Is it a girly film? Yes in the sense that it has a female lead (yeah) and other female supporting characters (more yeah) and the fact that it was written by said leading actress Kristen Wiig and more importantly it doesn't give a didly squat about the men in the audience except to make it so squirmy it's funny sitting there watching this sometimes gross out stuff, and I thoroughly recommend it.
After, of course I checked out Kristen Wiig and having now seen she is regular stand up comedien in NY this is so much her film. She has obviously taken her favourite characters and snippets of humanity and personalised them into real people we all know. It is for that sheer fact you must see this film, and laugh.
So next time someone recommends a film to you with a single word of 'funny' or 'brilliant' then just try and refrain from reading too much about it and go and be surprised. Go see it and see.
